2016-2017 Reflection

As I reflect upon the 2016-2017 school year, I am relatively happy with my level of tech integration. There are a few things that I would like to highlight and give myself a hand for!
  • I experimented and perfected my Google Classroom. I was able to create a paperless classroom for the students that wanted it.
  • I exposed students to creating websites by using Google Sites
  • I showed students  Pikotchart as we created infographics/graphic texts together
  • I experimented with student blogging
  • I sent out a couple of tweets- like this one!

Thinking ahead to the 2017-2018 school year, there are a few changes I wish to make. I'd like to incorporate more technology into my English classes. While I think I've done a great job in my Special Education classes, there are a lot of opportunities to get technology into the English classroom as well. I have already texted my co-teacher to ask her thoughts on using a variety of book chats into the class- both online discussions and oral discussions. I'll have to do some more research but thanks to some of my fellow "students" taking the Integrated Computer Tech Part 2 AQ, I know that Twitter has a chat feature which I may try in the class. The cat feature I'm leaning towards at this point came from @Mike_M_IICT  and that would be the D2L Chat. Really looking forward to giving students the opportunity to shine and share what they know in a different way.

For my own development, I'd really like to work on using Goobrics. When I'm writing report cards and I no longer have access to their rubrics and the feedback I gave, it sometimes makes it difficult to come up with a genuine comment. So I think using a digital rubric would help me out.

I'd also like to create my own Powtoon video. I've seen a few students use it and some colleagues as well. I'd really like to be able to use it myself so I can teach my students how to use it. I think of some of my Special Education students' who refuse to present in front of the class. Many of them already record their projects so they don't have to present live, but I'd like to be able to show them more options than shooting a video with their Iphone. I'd like to be prepared so I can avoid bombing the tool and turning the kids against it because I didn't know what I was doing...As displayed perfectly in this Powtoon Video!
